Jeter goes to bat for A-Rod; first Yanks practice uneventful

TAMPA — New York Yankees shortstop and captain Derek Jeter said he doesn't condone Alex Rodriguez's use of an illegal performance-enhancing drug, but he supports his teammate.

"You ask me if I believe him, I believe him," Jeter said Wednesday after the team's first full-squad workout at George M. Steinbrenner Field. "He said it was in the past. Family members make mistakes. You may be disappointed, but you don't lose respect.
